For groups and teams

I learned early in my career that, unless all members of a team are on the same page, progress can be painfully slow, and change may not last. Team coaching provides an opportunity to bring people together, clarify the vision, correct any misunderstandings, work towards a better understanding of performance objectives, and generally improve morale.

During my years working as a freelance consultant and trainer, I had many opportunities to develop my skills as an independent facilitator, taking on diverse commissions for team building, action learning, and strategic away-days, skills which were to serve me well in later years as a senior manager; chairing operational meetings, facilitating consultations, mediating complaints, and driving through necessary change.

I also have many years’ experience designing and delivering bespoke, educational workshops. As a nurse, these were mainly related to aspects of clinical practice such as; mental health awareness, communication, risk assessment, etc. More recently, I have created a range of interactive workshops specifically for managers and entrepreneurs who want to develop their leadership and business skills, but who neither need, nor want, the commitment of regular coaching or more formal academic studies. Quirky, and unique in style, the content of these workshops reflects the most commonly encountered topics during my years of coaching practice, including modules on; goal setting, performance enhancement, decision making, risk assessment, emotional intelligence, values based leadership, business planning, and coaching skills for managers. All workshops can be delivered ‘off the shelf’ or tailored specifically to individual business objectives.

When is coaching helpful?

  • For newly established teams who need to build relationships and agree terms of reference
  • For teams that are under performing and struggling to hit targets
  • For teams that need to develop a shared vision and strategy for achieving corporate goals
  • For teams that need to refresh, regroup and/or disband
  • For groups of individuals who have shared learning objectives

What are the benefits of Team Coaching?

  • Opportunity to think together in a safe space with an independent facilitator
  • Really listening to each other, sharing ideas and being heard
  • Greater awareness of individual strengths and differences and any skills gaps within the team
  • Getting really clear on vision, mission and strategy so you can plan the way forward
  • Better understanding of each other’s roles and how they fit together to form the whole

Testimonials

Karen recently assisted us in facilitating an event with Care Sector Providers and I was immediately impressed by how quickly she grasped what was initially a rather vague outline of the objectives for the session. Karen was able to swiftly and astutely focus the thinking for us to achieve a considered and detailed plan for the session. Her evidence based approach is demonstrated through her introducing useful models, tools and references to support the facilitation and she shares relevant suggestions to support further development and thinking .

In working with Karen I have found her to be very professional and warm in her manner. She makes you feel at ease whilst effortlessly combining the ability to both support and challenge in a positive and empowering manner.

Having never used the services of a business Coach before I was a little apprehensive introducing Karen to my team. However it turned out to be a really good decision. Karen is highly professional, knowledgeable and has the personal experience of working in high pressure environments herself...she has walked the talk. Karen helped my team cope with immense change in our business. It is hard to explain what Karen does, it is both challenging yet rewarding, easy yet hard, simple yet complicated. She helps you realise you actually have all the answers...you just don’t know it. If in doubt arrange to have a chat with her and decide for yourself...thanks Karen.

Just enjoyed a very insightful presentation from Karen Carpenter. Its the first time I have come across someone who understands the dynamics of the work-place performance, in a healthcare setting. Her vast experience comes through in her many case studies that she uses to illustrates the points she is making and to bring her presentation to life.
