What planet are you on?

Posted on 22nd April 2026

Did you know that April 22nd is International Mother Earth Day?

Earth Day originated as a grass roots civic movement in 1970s America, the inspiration of US Senator Gaylord Nelson. In 2009, the date and the concept were formally adopted as International Mother Earth Day by a resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations

The theme for 2026 is ‘ Our Power, Our Planet ’ reflecting the message that ‘progress is sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work’. Ref: https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2026/

It is difficult to deny, or ignore, the fact that life on earth is becoming increasingly volatile, with wars raging across the globe and the consequences of sensitive geo-politics effecting every aspect of our own lives with ever more impact; socially, politically, economically and environmentally.

The moody, unpredictable, at times savage, behaviour of Mother Earth that we are experiencing as unusual, extended climate events, and shocking environmental disasters, seems – in many ways - to emulate the turbulence of our deteriorating human condition revealing, in all its alarming drama, the desperate fragility of our relationship with the very source of our being.

None of us knows how much longer Mother Earth will tolerate the creeping insolence of her most destructive offspring before – in wounded exasperation – finally ejecting us from her presence, in a righteous act of self-preservation. But we can reasonably assume that, when that time arrives, it will be brutal – and it will be deserved.

For those who may be wondering how planets survive without the interference of human decision makers, join us on Monday 27 April, 7.30 – 9.00 pm when we will be asking the question, What Planet Are You On?

The first of a two-part series, What Planet Are You On? will explore what we know about our nearest neighbours – the facts and the folklore - and consider what this might reveal to us about the nature of life here on earth, and the ways this might play out in the increasingly volatile world of leadership & business.

And, for those who can’t make evening events, Part 1 will be repeated on Tuesday 28 July, 12.30 – 2.00 pm.
